WOW!  Thanks to Bud and Kent for trying out www.chatterous.com with me.  We just worked out some bugs (like how to text in and not have your number show up).  I’m very excited about the possibilities for using this in class!  I think with a little discussion about expectations and responsible use, kids will find this to be a great tool.

WOW!  I’m also excited about continuing my work on all aspects of my project.   I hope to have a chance to talk to Mrya more about layering a website and Dennis about blocking the ability to copy (a student’s photo) on the website.  I’m also going to put together some “How To” documents (for example, How to make a Google account) because I know it would have been helpful to my students last month when we were trying out blogging.

WOW!  I couldn’t resist :) The character at the top of this post is my WOW (World Of Warcraft) character.  (She’s a level 70 Blood Elf Destruction Warlock, pictured here with her minion :)

That seems like an interesting site.
How do you envision using the chat element in the classroom?
    How will you manage it?
I suppose you would need to so some good, solid lesson on “community” and “respect.”
I’m interested in learning more (if you have time).
    Thanks

I did a practice Blog activity last month with one class, and one comment was that students wanted to be able to ask questions to each other across the class, but that it wasn’t always appropriate to do so. With a proper introduction and regular reminders about respect/community/responsiblity chatting will be a way to draw kids in and get higher participation in class. We tried it out yesterday ( http://www.chatterous.com/landing/cybercamp/ ) you can see some of our problem solving. Check it out! I’ll be doing a “How To” guide to create an account and introduce students to it. I’m happy to send it to you when I’m done.
