I got very excited today after investigating Shelfari.com which I discovered on MyraG’s and ALice’s Skyline library site. If you click on SUMMER READS you will see a great example of what this site offers. It is a virtual bookshelf and book networking site. THe possibilities are endless. I have been trying to think of an easy way to let students and staff know about new titles in the library and this will be perfect. I can create genre shelves, teachers and students can showcase their own shelves – possibilities are endless. More ways to foster REAL reading and writing and sharing of information. My shelf is just beginning but I will be able to add it to my BLOG soon.
Another great day surrounded by amazing, knowledgeable people. This is how I like to learn and I need to find a way to provide similar opportunities to my students.

Sue,
I’m so glad you “found” Shelfari – http://www.shelfari.com/. I’ve been on the hedge between using Library Thing – http://www.librarything.com and Shelfari. I’ve come to this conclusion: Shelfari is wonderful for sharing with students; it looks great, the shelf and all; I think kids will relate. LibraryThing is good for recording and sharing the books I’ve read – for me and other adult-type people – it’s just not as pretty or kid friendly!
I must admit, I haven’t gotten very far on my list in Library Thing: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/jmeester, it takes time. I did look up an article about the differences between the two: http://www.davidlouisedelman.com/technology/shelfari/
and find out (as of August 07) that Shelfari was still in beta, which likely means future improvements and that I can upload my Library Thing Account to Shelfari.

Sue,
I too use Shelfari and have it linked on my blog. I recently created my summer reading list and posted about it. I love it. Have fun being creative with it! Have you used any other sites like Shelfari?

Thanks for this! I shared this with my school librarian and she LOVES it. So does my husband (a 3rd grade teacher).
