Well, it’s Wednesday and I am making progress; the course I’m teaching next year is taking shape. Feel free to take a look and please make any suggestions you can think of. Just click on research. If you were taking this class (imagine you are 13 again), or if you were a parent with a child in this class, or if you were a school administrator, what would you still want to know about this class, what else would you like to see? Let me know. I am open to suggestions for improvement. One idea I have with studying explorers is to read a class book together about one explorer, such as Shackleton. I would use this text to model with students essential questions, what information to take notes on, etc. Also, students could compare their explorer to Shackleton and analyze how explorers have commonalities. I also want to use the Big 6 research model and I’m not sure how to do this. Any ideas?
Progress can be good

I read an article about embedding the library resources into the class moodle pages so that all in the class can link right to the library look-up system as well as the research databases, etc. With your class being a Research Class, you will already sort of be doing that, but you might want to think about having a section called CRMS Library Resources with links to things like citation creator, copyright guidelines, Horizon, Longmont Public Library, all of the research databases we provide: Opposing Viewpoints, EBSCO, Worldbook, AskColorado, Contemporary Authors and Literary Criticism (limited access) and those that CRMS might subscribe to in addition to the district ones. The free library sites might be valuable as well. What about a good site for resource evaluation and subject heading searches by content areas. Bud and I talked about this and we’re planning to create a piece of html code that does all of this that we can send out to the district folks that want to embed it into their vitual campus classes. Want to do it?
