Decided to work on my moodle class that I offered to my staff at CRMS on Adolescent Lit. Sheri Platt at Mead middle created the original class and template and I basically took it (with Bud’s help) and added my own twists and turns. Because of end of the year craziness, I hadn’t been a very good moderator. Was excellent for me to navigate my way around like a pro, throwing comments in and reading posts.
15 teachers are each reading 6 different YA novels, NonFiction, and Manga etc - summarizing, posting scholarly reviews, and commenting. The goal is that our staff will be recommending great titles to our students and motivate them to read more. Their recommendations will be posted on our school library blog and hopefully lots of great conversations will begin to take place between staff and students. It’s also a great introduction to Moodle for our staff unfamiliar with the format.
I think this is going to be a great 2 weeks !

This is what it is all about! What great happenings. Conversations between staff and students – where real learning can take place.

Will students be using the library blog to write reviews and offer suggestions? I am curious. Will parents have access to the sites, too?
I love that the technology can give the young readers a voice.
Maybe you could make a place for students to offer up suggested titles for the library.
Sincerely,

Your moodle sounds interesting. Can you add a link to it, so we can all check it out?

I am taking this class with Sue and I love it. Not only do I love reading books that are out of my comfort zone, like a graphic novel but I am getting great recommendations from other staff. One suggestion I have for a future class is to have a school-wide book but also invite parents to be involved. This would be fun, but would also there would be community involvement.

dogtrax: The original intent of my library blog was and still is to get students involved in posting. Yes, parents and anyone will have access as it is public. The problem was that I created the blog but never introduced it to students as I just wasn’t ready yet. (I’m still not but hopefully will be after this class) You can look at it at http://dynamitereads.blogspot.com
So far, I’m really not a blogger so I actually want it to take flight with my students and staff at Coal RIdge Middle providing the energy and dialogue.

Log in as a guest and check it out
The teachers involved should in the class will hopefully be the very involved bloggers and inspire their students to get involved.

Speaking of graphic novels, Michelle, have you read Persepolis? It’s very good.

Sue, you rock! Great idea to do this YA class with your staff and to tie its use back to students as well.

THe teachers taking the class below will especially be instrumental in making this blog successful and well-used. It is a great bunch of teachers from all content areas. Kids will be really inspired to participate as they read comments from their teachers in this blog. Yes the blog will be accessible to parents and anyone who wants to participate.

Sorry for the test, but I have posted twice and neither showed up. How did that happen.
Library blog is dynamitereads.blogspot.com Accessible to anyone but I have lots of improvements to make before I go public. Plan is that students, parents, and staff will drive this blog as I don’t seem to be much of a blogger yet.
Class mentioned above is http://classes.stvrain.k12.co.us/course/category.php?id=14
